  • Come up with one idea or theory about your independent reading book and elaborate on that idea. (You could tell why character trait, problem, event, etc is important in the story).

Finish your 6 room chart. Include at least 3 details in each box. The more detail you add, the better your poem will be!! You do not need to write your poem tonight- we will do this in class tomorrow.

    • Continue to find evidence in your book to support your theory/ idea you wrote about today in reading workshop. Continue to think about story elements like:
      • characters (traits, motivation, relationships..)
      • plot (important events in the beginning, middle and end)
      • setting (how does it affect characters or the plot?)
  2. Writing:
    • Come up with new ideas for poems to fit into your poetry anthology. Do this in the form of a web with your theme in the middle and ideas around the outside. YOU DO NOT NEED TO WRITE A POEM.

  • In your reading notebook, create a character web for the main character in your story. Use your the chart from today's lesson in your reading notebook to help you remember what makes a good reading response. (big ideas supported by details + evidence!)

In your writing notebook, write another poem using an idea from your heart map.
Steps to Creating Your Poem:
1. Choose an idea
2. Decide what you want to communicate to your reader about that idea.
3. Write a poem and make sure your message comes through!

3. Math:
HC (Home Connection) pgs 1 & 2 "What's the Problem?" Make sure your name is written and and rip out the page.

9/8: First Day of School!
Students:
1. Fill out student survey.
2. Read for 30 minutes and log in your reading log.

- We will be using dry erase boards in class. Bring in a rag or sock to be a dry erase board eraser.

-We have gym first period tomorrow so wear sneakers.

-If you will be eating class snack, please bring in some snack for yourself and the class.

Parents:

  • Please return the forms in the welcome letter packet (contact info/ survey, and dismissal/ neighborhood walk) by Tuesday, September 13th. There is a mistake on the dismissal form- we forgot to add Kids Cre8 as an option for dismissal. Please add that in if your child will be going to Kids Cre8.
  • Please return the PS 8 emergency contact blue form.
  • If you have not already bought school supplies for your child, either through the PTA or independently, please have your child's school supplies by Tuesday, September 13th. The most important items are notebooks and folders, so if you are unable to get other supplies, please make sure you send your child with those items.
