Note About Weekly Wordstudy
- This page will list the 10 weekly wordstudy words that students are expected to be able to both spell and understand the definition of.
- 5 of the words are usually prefix words and the other 5 are content vocabulary words that are related to what students are currently studying across subject areas
- About once a week, students will study personal words. Personal words is an individualized list of 10 words, gathered from student writing, that students need to spell. Personal words will not be posted on this page.

Content Vocabulary (all related to our reading unit "Argument and Advocacy" and our writing unit "Research-Based Argument Essays", in which students are researching controversial topics and writing research based essays to state their opinion.

**From now on, students are expected to define the content vocabulary for themselves. They have been asked to make sure:
- that the definition is related to the subject area in which we use the word in class (if there are multiple definitions for a word)
- that they choose a definition that makes sense to them, written in language that makes sense to them.
Homework for Content Vocabulary should include:

4. transparent (adj) - allowing light rays through so objects can be clearly seen through it

6. perspective (n) - a particular attitude towards something; point of view
7. innovation (n) a new idea, method, or product
8. tension (n) - a feeling of nervousness, anxiety, stress, and/or fear about an outcome
9. chronological (adj) - in sequence; in order of time
10. ratio (n) - a relationship between two amounts that compares them, showing how much of one thing there is compared to another
Week 1- October 31-Nov 4
1. subway (n)-an underground electric railroad
2. subject (n)-someone who is under the control of someone else
3. submerge (v)-to put below the surface of water
4. subset(n)-a set that is part of a larger set
5. subterranean (adj)-beneath the earth's surface
6. denominator (n): the number below the fraction line which shows the number of equal parts that the whole is divided into.
7. numerator (n): the number above the fraction line that shows the number of euqal parts that are being considered.
8. equivalent (adj): equal in value but possibly in a different form.
9. improper fraction (n): a fraction whose numerator is greater than or equal to its denominator.
10. manifest destiny (n) : the belief held during the early 1800's that America was meant to expand West and spread their traditions
